Credits, tokens and gold: how paying for live cams works
Published July 2026
Cam sites bill one of two ways, and knowing which one you're on changes how you should handle your money. Prepaid sites sell you a bundle of on-site currency up front; pay-as-you-go sites keep a card on file and bill for what you watch. Neither is a trick — but they reward different habits.
Prepaid credits: gift-card logic
Most premium networks — LiveJasmin, ImLive, Flirt4Free among them — sell credits in fixed bundles. Every site prices its own currency and the checkout always shows the real amount you're paying, so treat credits like a gift-card balance: the useful number is never "how many credits" but what the bundle cost you. Larger bundles are usually discounted, and most sites run a first-purchase promo — worth taking, but only on the site you'll actually use.
The quiet advantage of prepaid: the bundle is a built-in budget. When it's empty, the session is over — no surprise on the statement.
Pay-as-you-go: the running meter
Streamate works the other way: you register a card and spending bills as you go — "gold" is its on-site name for money you put toward tips and gold shows, and private shows meter per minute against your card. No bundle math, no leftover balance — but also no built-in stop. If you're the type who loses track of time in a good show, set your own limit before you start, because the meter won't.
What shows actually cost
Per-minute rates are set by each model, not the site, and are always displayed before you accept a show. Most privates land in the low single-digit dollars per minute; top models charge more, exclusive privates cost more than standard ones, and group formats cost the least per viewer because the bill is split. Free chat costs nothing — who's in an open room now.
- Free chat — free; tips optional.
- Spy on a private — cheapest paid seat, no interaction.
- Group / gold / VIP shows — a fixed pledge or low per-minute rate, split across the room.
- Standard private — model's per-minute rate, others may spy.
- Exclusive private — highest rate, nobody else watching.
Keeping it predictable
Three habits cover almost everything: check the per-minute rate before you accept (every network we index shows it before a show starts); know whether you're entering a standard or an exclusive private, because the rates differ; and decide your number before the show, not during it. Details on which show type is which: free chat vs private shows.
Per-site specifics — billing model, show formats, what makes each network different — are on our site pages.
